Chief Development Officer, Alternative Energy
Nick joined BP in 1999 and has held a broad range of senior technical and commercial leadership roles across BP’s businesses and corporate functions.
Nick was appointed as chief development officer of Alternative Energy in August 2016. In this role he holds global accountability for developing new renewables businesses and supporting the growth of BP’s existing wind and biofuels businesses. As part of this role, Nick also leads the development of Alternative Energy’s strategy and has played a significant role supporting BP’s overall strategy.
Prior to this Nick spent 3 years as VP Group Competitor Intelligence, leading a team of specialised analysts responsible for providing the Board, and senior executives with wide-ranging insights on the strategies and performance of competitors. Before this Nick spent 6 years in Investor Relations, latterly leading the North America team, based in Houston, where he led the relationships with analysts and institutional shareholders in the US and Canada. Nick also held accountability for building BP’s ownership with institutional shareholders in Asia and the Middle East.
Nick’s early career was spent working in a variety of operational, technical and commercial roles in BP’s upstream business, based offshore in the North Sea, Aberdeen, Algeria and London.
Nick holds a PhD in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering and a degree in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Southampton. Nick is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Nick is married to Debbie, who runs her own consulting business. They have two young sons.
